Description

Narrative: NURTURING tells a story of relationships and caring about others and our planet.

It is an homage to nature which nurtures the creation of art, and it is a representation of the natural environment. In it’s three dimensional form the piece is a landscape that has hills, canyons, valleys, river beds, and trees with images of flora, birds and animal life. On a minute scale the tooth of the canvas becomes dunes, and from the perspective of an aerial view the canvas panels become land masses separated by flowing river beds.

Caring is depicted visually as well as physically in the structure of the piece as the top panel protrudes further forward than the others, sheltering those beneath like a mother watching over it’s young ones.

Across the surface of the panels, the rhythms dance as the separated panels engage the mind’s eye to complete the image, each time finding different connecting pathways, revealing new views of it’s world. With every encounter, the layered, flowing, intricate, engaging painting re-reveals itself. Viewing becomes experiencing as the longer you visit with it, you recognize and find meanings that resonate with a distinctive purpose for each individual.

Overall Dimensions: Width 38” x Height 24” x Depth 4.5″

Format: oil painted panels, attached to wooden hanging structure

Oil paint on stretched canvas.

The Stretchers (the canvas panels): Designed, created and built by the artist, this unique ‘Nature’s Secret’ stretcher is hand drawn and carved with a multi-layered, ridged edge for added effect.  The stretchers have a convex back which protrudes from the wall enhancing it’s presence and relationship with the viewer.

The Wooden Hanging Structure: Designed by the artist to augment the narrative, the complementary sculptural element is created from cocobolo wood by Furniture maker Robert Post.  The art and wood structure are set an inch in front of, not against, the wall and have the appearance of floating.

The Paint: ‘Old Holland Classic Oil Colours’ oil paint for the richest, most vibrant color.

The Oil: ‘Chelsea Classical Studio’ Clarified Pale Cold Pressed Walnut Oil. This oil will not darken, and contributes to both the deep richness of tones and hues, as well as the brightness and energy of the highlights in the work. This magnificent oil was mentioned many times as a favored painting medium in the writings of Leonardo DaVinci!

The Canvas: #10 double-filled Army Duck canvas, selected for its smooth, uniform surface and durability.
